Tembo is a sculptural stool that combines a wood metal body with a solid cork seat. The designers drew their inspiration both from the African tam-tams -Tembo means elephant coot in swahili- and give a nod to the Memphis Group of the 80s aesthetics. Tembo was originally part of the Marginal notes exhibition held by Note design studio collective as a creative stunt. The concept was to produce in real life the various doodles and ‘marginal notes’ that the members of the group had in their notebook, however crazy they might be. Needless to say that at the time, Note design studio was a polyvalent creative team working in various medias industries, but that they had never designed any furniture. The exhibition was a great success and a dozen pieces were presented. The colorful and sculptural creations were to define Note’s identity and originated their career as one of the main player in nowadays Nordic design scene. Note Design Studio is a collective of architects, graphic & product designers established in Sweden in 2008. They presented their first furniture pieces in 2010. Their style combines the elegant simplicity of Nordic design with a playful and almost naïve identity. Note Design Studio have also drawn other projects for La Chance : the Bolt stool and the Zorro coffee table. Always use a microfiber cloth and rub lightly. Never apply any solvents.
