Rare circa 1830 Chesterfield Porters Chair Mahogany Framed Wingback Rare Find

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning original circa 1830 wingback porters chair in solid mahogany with faux leather upholstery A really rare find and with very desirable proportions, the back is barrel to offer ample room, wingback chairs came to life for grand houses where the sitter needed protection from the wind, these type of chair were for the porter or night watchman, easy to nod off in as the wings offer such comfortable head rest The base is coil sprung as you would expect, the frame solid mahogany and the legs are finished 1970s castors, I wouldn’t be surprised if after the upholstery is removed you find some prominent manufactures name somewhere Condition wise we have deep cleaned it from top to bottom, its in lovely order so far as I can see, the wings on chairs like this always have a small amount of play due to the size and age, please view the detailed pictures clearly, the wood work has been cleaned waxed and polished Dimensions Height 109cm Width 84cm Depth 77cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
