Antique 19th-century West German black oak blanket chest trunk or coffer
About the Item
Offered here is a beautiful antique oak blanket chest or trunk made in Germany in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. The chest was crafted at the end of the 19th century, around 1870. It was made from the finest quality quarter-sawn summer oak, displaying a stunning grain pattern. The chest's body was assembled using visible dovetail joints. The lid is adorned with subtle molding all around. The chest sits on a plinth and is raised with small feet. It was stained a deep dark brown, almost black, and finished with shellac and several layers of wax polish. The chest features original handles on the sides, and the lock and hinges are authentic.
The chest has been gently cleaned in our workshop, and the lock has been repaired. It is now sturdy, clean, and ready for use.
