Betty Cobonpue Sculptural Split Reed Storage Chest, 1980s

About the Item

Offered is a lovely sculptural split reed storage chest/trunk designed by Betty Cobonpue for her "Scultura" line produced in the 1980s. Cobonpues' design philosophy was simple: no hard edges. This is represented in the graceful curves and incredible craftsmanship of this particular piece. Made from formed split reed over a solid wood core/frame. The interior is a wonderful mahogany that adds a lot of warmth to the piece. These were made by hand and undoubtedly took the craftsmen many hours to create. The interior dimensions are: 34.25"L x 16.5"W x 14.75" H This would function well in a variety of settings from mid-century modern, post-modern, or bohemian decors.

    Wear consistent with age and use. No breaks or repairs. Scuffs/marks are present to base. Some small cracks in the finish in places. There is a small ding on the front of the lid as pictured. The lid support was removed at some point. Presents and functions very well.
