20th Century Roberto Monsani Lighting Bookcase mod. Life for Acerbis, 70s

About the Item

Roberto Monsani (Florence, 1929-2018) was an architect of famous Tuscan villas and a designer active in the fields of furniture and shop fitting. In 1963, he also founded the 3BM studio together with Luigi and Giancarlo Bicocchi and Lisindo Baldassini. He began designing furniture for Acerbis in the 1970s, including the famous Life bookcase with modular containers. The furniture is composed of three wall panels with the function of boiserie. The panels provide for the attachment of backlit cube-shaped containers, which are hung by means of special methacrylate spacers containing a light fixture that allows the diffusion of light outside and inside the cabinet by means of a porthole in the back. Small architectures engrave the space, creating a harmonious balance between form and function. Suspended containers alternate with large voids, barely emphasised by shelves, to meet the most current needs of contemporary living, for storage, for hanging, for highlighting. Lights, inserted between furniture and boiserie, to enhance the contrast between volumes, give value to functions, make objects stand out. Original brandmark as shown in photos. Good condition, fully original. The lighting system can be rewired to US standards upon request.
