Renato Polidori for Skipper 'Biblos' Bookcase in Marble

About the Item

Renato Polidori for Skipper, 'Biblos' bookcase, marble, Italy, design 1976 Postmodern cabinet in marble, designed by the Italian Renato Polidori in 1976. The bookcase consists of four green marble shelves, held in place by large and heavy pieces of grey marble that form all together the uprights. The design is architectural in the sense that the construction is monumental and solid and based on the laws of gravity. When the shelves are clamped between the heavy elements and these are placed exactly and these are stacked on top of each other correctly, the wall unit is stabile and strong because of the weight of all parts. In the late 20th century, Italian stone was an uprising that several designers experimented with in designing furniture, products and architecture. Designers such as Noguchi, Albini, Zanuso, Carlo Scarpa and Mangiarotti were all representing different approaches in expression and method.
