George I Walnut Double Dome Bookcase on Chest
About the Item
"Presenting an exceptional and original George I Walnut Double Dome Bookcase on Chest, crafted between 1720 and 1730. This masterpiece boasts a striking design, with original well-shaped moulded double dome arches gracing the front and sides of the bookcase.
The bookcase's shaped break-arch doors, adorned with original glass, are set within finely crafted moulded frames. They open gracefully on shaped gilt-brass chased strap hinges, revealing the old papered interior—a testament to its authenticity.
This remarkable piece is further elevated by its base, which comprises two short over three long oak-lined graduating drawers. Each drawer features double book-matched panels and is framed with exquisite feather-banding and cross-banding, exemplifying the craftsmanship of its era.
Standing on its original shaped bracket feet and adorned with old replacement handles, this piece comes with the distinguished provenance of Woollas Hall. It is not just a piece of furniture; it's a historical treasure that embodies the grandeur and artistry of the early 18th century, ready to enhance any interior with its timeless charm and significance."
