About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare pair of full-sized circa 1700 William III walnut and parcel gilt Baroque style library bookcases These are original library bookcases, they would have sat either side of a grand fireplace in a Library or study, they have clips at the top for attaching them to a wall which is advisable due to the height and depth. They are an exceptionally fine pair, the carvings of Cherubs are early and sublime, the finish is period and unaltered. In terms of the condition the bookcases have a period correct patina, there are ware areas all over, a piece of timber missing on the top left corner. The bookcases have had woodworm all over, its very very old however we have treated it three times to be on the safe side. We have also deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished them from top to bottom The parcel gilt finish has stood the test of time very well, after 320+ years of use its still looking glorious Dimensions Height 218cm Width 101cm Depth 30cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
