About the Item

Shelving system, wall unit or bookcase designed by Dutch furniture designer Louis Van Teeffelen for Wébé the Netherlands in the 1950s. This wall unit or shelving system has to be one of the finest storage designs from the Dutch, midcentury. In contrast with the shelving systems by Royal Systems and Poul Cadovius, this one is designed to stand freely on the floor against a wall. Although not necessary, minimal holes could be drilled in the wall to secure it. This makes it a very easy to manage shelving system. We also think it makes it even more beautiful! The elegant black risers and their brass hooks make it a very stylish and modern item. The wall unit is made of beautiful teak, black wooden risers and brass brackets it features a cabinet, four shelves for books or other small items and one shelve with two drawers, which can be used as a desk or a place for large items. It is possible to rearrange the shelves to your liking. The cabinet is best placed at the bottom. This is for stability. The wall unit can be placed freely against a wall on a flat floor. It is made of teak with brass and in good condition with normal traces of use. Dining chair in photo is an example and is not included with purchase. Louis Van Teeffelen was the most important designer at Wébé. His work was often influenced by Danish Mid-Century Modern. Like Danish designs of the same era, he mainly used teak, brass connectors and brackets and black painted elements. His most famous work is probably his Pelican Chair and his modular shelving system, which is a good alternative to the wall units by Poul Cadovius and Royal Systems or Cado. But he also designed a beautiful sideboard, dining table and chair.
