19th Century French Renaissance Revival Grand Hunt Buffet ~ Vaisselier is a stunning work of the wood sculptor's art, designed to impress and amaze those who are fortunate enough to see it in person! Measuring almost eight feet tall and almost eight feet wide, it will immediately become the focal point in any room in which it is placed. The carvings and sculpture that abound from the crown to the base are too numerous to describe herein, but a quick summary follows. A norseman appears over a stag mounted on an heraldic plaque at the very top, flanked by pierce-carved foliates, florals and grape clusters cascade down to the upper shelf that is supported by a brace of fantastic gryffins intermingled with fruit and grape clusters mounted on intricate foliate scrolls. An intaglio-carved back panel overlooks the second shelf, which is supported by completely different expressions of gryffins that are holding a pair of freshly caught fish! A similar back panel overlooks the second shelf as well. Below that is the main surface with fully gadrooned edge, appearing over the drawer tier which contains a pair of drawers at the front and rounded apron on each side, all lavished with amazingly artistic fully laden grapevines where the vines themselves form the drawer pulls. A brace of pilasters topped with rosettes frame the front facade, outside of which are the rounded cabinet doors, and between which appear the two centered front doors. All four doors open to reveal cavernous storage, and are lavished with full relief sculptures of the spoils of the hunt in dramatic, lifelike detail. The entire affair is set upon a gloriously proportioned base lavished with acanthus bordering across its top, and fitted with pediment style feet for stylish, sturdy support.
