The excellent carved details and unusual configuration of cabinets and drawers give this antique French buffet credenza, circa 1910 its desirable appearance. The beautiful carving seen across the entire front of antique buffet has a balance and symmetry that is amplified by the amazing steel hardware used for all four drawers and the four cabinet door hinges and lock plates. The contrast between the pierced steel backplates and the aged painted finish creates a wonderful impression. This antique buffet has a center section that is thrust forward while the door and drawer on both the left and right side is set back to give a sense of movement across the entire façade. In the center section the two long drawers at the top sit above the pair of lower cabinet doors while on the left and right there is a single drawer above the taller cabinet door. Notice how the corners on the edges of the vertical sections are rounded and how this rounded motif of the carved details extends across the drawer fronts and moulding on the cabinet doors. It is even visible on the four cabriole leg feet and the pattern of the apron as its scalloped curves join all the legs. This overall attention to detail and proportion demonstrate the excellence of French cabinet making. When all the doors are open the interior storage space is revealed as well as the shelf inside which doubles the available room for objects and supplies. This antique French credenza buffet is a handsome piece and will add texture and depth to any interior where a reference to the past is desired.
