An Attractive French Over-sized Buffet à Deux-Corps, Late 19th Century

About the Item

A French tall carved-wood display and storage cabinet, with wire-front upper doors, from the late 19th century. This antique cabinet from France, often referred to as a buffet à deux-corps (which is the French name for a buffet consisting of an upper and lower case, "deux" thus referencing the two parts) is a large-sized piece, standing at approximately 7.75 feet tall, and approximately 8.75 feet in width. It features a molded and slightly overhanging cornice with rounded edges, atop a cabinet which houses four beautifully-carved panel doors with chicken-wire fronts (and adjustable interior shelves), atop a slightly deeper lower case that is fitted with four decoratively-carved raised-panel doors. This cabinet is securely presented upon a flat, molded base, with round front side corners which mimic the curves carried down from the upper cornice and through the front side posts. The bleached wood finish is complimented by a pale white wash and taupe accent highlighting the various trim and carvings. The shallow depth of approximately 14.5" at top and 20" at lower base, allows this larger piece to function nicely within a space which may otherwise have a more confined footprint. This late 19th century French display and storage cabinet, with its tall height and expansive width, offers plentiful storage and display options for your home, (without looking overly heavy). Its quite an attractive Buffet à Deux-Corps!
