French Mid-19th Century Transitional St. Buffet Vitrine, Circa 1840

About the Item

An elegant French mid 19th century Transitional st. kingwood, charmwood, ormolu and Noir Antique marble buffet vitrine, circa 1840. The one door fourteen drawer buffet is raised by fine lightly curved tapered legs with foliate ormolu sabots. The straight apron is centered by a lovely scalloped shape design and an ormolu mount with a reeded urn and scrolled acanthus leaves. At the center is the single door which retains its original glass pane and opens to reveal the original hardware. Ten of the fourteen drawers display beautiful beaded ormolu pulls set on a most decorative veneered background, while the others display lovely richly chased tied ribbon keyhole escutcheons with the top three set on a striking herringbone and charmwood background. The sides display wonderful butterfly veneered designs below similar herringbone patterns. Above is the original Noir Antique marble top with a fine mottled border. All original gilt throughout.
