Grand 18th Century French Louis XIV Step-Front Buffet
About the Item
Grand 18th Century French Louis XIV step-front buffet was hand-crafted for a spacious chateau with a large family, and although the tape measure indicates its maximum depth at the center, with the sides recessed it makes a surprisingly small footprint in the room, perfect for high-traffic areas! Stretching almost 10 feet in total width, it boasts four yawning cabinets which open to provide abundant storage with single shelves in each compartment, and two concealed interior drawers. The drawers feature brass pulls, with the doors hung by double brass barrel hinges, accented with brass key guards. It is difficult to decide which embellishment feature is more immediately attractive~ the bold architecture with the step-front center section and bold base molding with stepped pediments, or the elegant, restrained Baroque-inspired carved detail sculpted right into the cabinet door frames, on the raised panels, and even the four mitered cornerposts. Even the side panels are meticulously sculpted to create visual appeal from all angles!
