Oak

French Oak Buffet Cosmetically Original and Structurally Restored, circa 1800
Located in Chicago, IL
Antique French buffet or sideboard if you prefer to call it, was probably constructed in the late 1700s or very early 1800s and has somehow magically escaped the hands of any restorer. In the antique business, we always prefer to purchase an object, in its natural unrestored condition and our personal preference is conservation, rather than restoration. Anyone can restore an antique French buffet and make it pretty to the eye, but it requires an artisan, to truly conserve an antique and make it appear as though, it has been untouched for the last 200 years, yet function as new. Our Old Plank workshop, specializes in conservation first and only when required, restoration. This particular antique French Louis XV style buffet, is an excellent example of conservation. The color of our 200-year-old French white oak...
