Provencal Louis XV Period Buffet in Walnut, France c. 1750

About the Item

A fine Louis XV Buffet, constructed in Walnut, and accented with pierced Steel escutcheon plates & decorative mounts. Provencal in origin, and dating from the mid-18th century. The commode's most notable design feature is the exceptional pierced apron stretching between cabriole feet, with rocaille designs deeply-carved and bordered by an undulating serpentine edge. Framing this are a pair of sturdy scrolled feet beneath rounded corners with recessed panels. The top in conforming shape with a moulded edge, above a shaped frieze with a false-front. The back legs are also in cabriole form, a thoughtful attention to detail by the craftsman. William Word Fine Antiques: Atlanta's Source since 1956.
