Swedish Baroque, 1740s Painted Buffet with Carved Doors and Pullout Drawer
About the Item
A Swedish Baroque painted wood buffet from the Mid-18th Century, with two doors, geometric carved panels, pull out, bun feet and nicely distressed patina. Created in Sweden during the second quarter of the 18th century, this painted buffet showcases the stylistic characteristics of the Baroque style. The buffet features a rectangular top with beveled edges, sitting above a thin pull out drawer. Two doors below are adorned with carved panels presenting molded geometric accents. These doors are flanked with side posts echoing this geometric décor. The sides are plain and the back is, of course, simply planked and unfinished. The buffet is painted in a soft color with nicely weathered appearance, typical of the Swedish taste for light palettes aiming at brightening the rooms during the long and dark Scandinavian winters. The ensemble is raised on four elegant bun feet. With its clean lines and geometric carved décor, this Swedish Baroque painted buffet circa 1740 will make for a wonderful addition to any home, placed in a living room, dining room or kitchen.
