1800s French Oak Cabinet
About the Item
This antique oak cabinet combines Baroque theatricality with the simple beauty of Provincial craftsmanship. Built in France circa 1800, the dramatic arch of the cornice provides a striking frame for the beautifully paneled doors. The contours of the panelling recall the elegant drapery of the skirts and petticoats that women at this time would have worn; the lacy contours of the upper shelves of the interior echo this motif. The oak has been carefully restored in our workshops to reveal its natural finish: a pale, sunlit tone, which lends a natural lightness to the broad proportions of the Silhouette.
