1960s Midcentury Modular Set by Mojmir Pozar for UP Zavody

About the Item

This Mid-Century Modern Modular Set was designed by Mojmir Pozar and produced by UP Zavody, Bucovice factory in 1960s Czechoslovakia. This is a Modular set that consists of a writing desk, cabinet, side table and two headboards for the double bed. All of these units can be standing on their own or stack together in various Formations, making this piece extremely flexible. Each piece is made of beechwood with a light honey colour birch veneer and contrasting removable black legs, opaxite glass and long bakelite handles. There is also a little steel hook on each of the pieces (including the table) that allows it to be clipped together. The writing desk has two sliding drawers on its sides and one open drawer in the middle. By unscrewing its two legs, the table can be placed on the cabinet in various positions which also adds option of one open and two sliding drawers to the desk side. The bedside table is supported by one wood leg in black colour together with its back part in birch veneer. This makes the bedside table look as though it’s lightly floating in an effortlessly way. The cabinet has a removable glass shelved in the middle protected by two sliding glass doors. On the left side, there is one open drawer and two sliding ones. There is an option of adding a side table to its right side to get a visual symmetry or an even longer piece by adding the desk to its side. The remaining two pieces are the birch veneer back parts that can be used as headboards for a single or double bed. All parts of the set are in great vintage condition. The pieces have been recently restored to the highest standard, using original techniques and respecting the character of the furniture whilst reviving the natural pattern of the wood. There is some minor wear and tear on the wood, small scratches on the opaxite glass and bit of colour fading on the two headboards for the double bed.
