19th Century French Patinated Wooden Cabinet
About the Item
A timeworn patina gives this antique wooden cabinet a unique appeal. Hand-built in France in the 1800s, the once-painted surface of the exterior has worn to a soft craquelure, beneath which the warm tone of the natural wood is visible. The tall door opens to reveal an array of shelves, once painted a bright shade of sky aquamarine, now faded to a softer hue. These nostalgic variations of color and texture gift the simple, utilitarian form of this Provincial cabinet a personality beyond its pragmatic purpose, conjuring an air of bygone romance.
