19th Century Large Renaissance Style Walnut Cabinet Bookcase with Arched Center
About the Item
An exceptional Renaissance style large walnut cabinet with nicely carved cornice surmounting a center arch flanked by upper single cabinet doors featuring open decorative wrought iron metalwork fronts, opening to three removable shelves on the left and two shelves on right, over two fitted drawers and two knobbed paneled doors, opening to a single interior shelf storage compartment on each side, all on a bracket style base. This cabinet breaks down into five sections - two upper cabinets, two lower cabinets, and a center arch, for easier moving and setup. Probably Italian in origin dating to the late 19th century, in very good overall condition, with great patina, minor edge losses, shrinkage crack repairs, minor restorations, as well as wear commensurate with age and use. A small cutout is visible inside one of the base cabinets, possibly for electrical access. Provenance: Sotheby’s NY, sale #5641, lot 294.
