19th Century, Pair of Italian Baroque Style Nightstand or Cabinets

About the Item

19th Century, Pair of Italian Baroque Style Nightstand or Cabinets This refined pair of bedside tables, or central cabinets, was made in Genoa (Italy) in the second half of the nineteenth century, in the characteristic style of the Genoese Baroque era. The bedside tables are in veneered wood with the essence of Rosewood and Bois de Rose. The four sides have the "Genoese quadrifoglio", a well-known quadrilobate rose window made of heart-shaped inlaid elements. It is so called because it resembles the petals of a four-leaf clover, and is characteristic of Ligurian cabinet-making. The different colors of the wood essences create refined chromatic games very decorative. The top is in Spanish Broccatello marble and is slightly recessed: the back and sides of the furniture continue in height, preventing objects possibly resting on the floor to slide to the ground. On the front, below the floor, there is a open compartment, entirely paved, while below, two small doors close a larger space to store objects. The sides are moved, as well as the four slightly arched legs ending in saber, embellished with golden bronze tips chiseled with foliar motifs Graceful and elegant, these bedside tables can also be used as central cabinets as they are completely finished on all four sides and therefore pleasing to be seen on the back. They can therefore be exhibited in pairs or individually, next to sofas, in living rooms, studios and entrances, as well as beside the bed.
