About the Item
What a beautiful item. This antique cabinet was made by/for J.M. Paillard. This cabinet was used as a dispenser for erasers. In a time averybody still used pencils this cabinet was filled withe the best erasers in France. A beautiful antique display which will be a eyecatcher in every store, shop, livingroom. Als nice to use vor other products. Like matches or Lego. You name it.
On the side there is a real nice copper plate which says that the cabinet is alwasy owned by J.M. Paillard, Paris - a famous French retailer. The company was originally founded in France - in 1788 - to produce watercolours, by a P. C. Lambertye. (Edited to add: this makes them the second oldest company to ever make fountain pens, as far as I know; Faber-Castell was making pencils about two decades before that.) The name J. M. Paillard dates from 1850, when an owner of that name took over. They later went on to produce fountain pens.
A fabulous and very elegant desk-top accessory in excellent condition.
