About the Item
Inspiration
The Nizwa family of furniture is inspired by the rounded castellations of the Nizwa Fort in Oman and the ombré colour effect caused by the sunlight falling across them.
Craft
The Italian maple veneers are dyed immediately after being cut from the tree when still ‘wet’ resulting in deeper, richer colours. The ombré is created by hand-shading the veneer, a technique mastered by our craftspeople in Muscat.
Detail
The elegant pattern is meticulously constructed by hand using the ancient technique of marquetry, each door containing one hundred and eight individual elements of solid brass, copper or nickel and one hundred and eighteen maple veneer “petals”.

Bethan Gray
Bethan Gray has an extraordinary background: born to a Scottish father and Welsh mother, her maternal family descends from a nomadic Rajasthani clan that migrated across Arabia and Persia over centuries. Inspired by her heritage and fueled by a deep-seated curiosity about global art and culture, Bethan has travelled to many of the places they passed through, developing an innate sense for the geometric forms common to many of these regions. Today, her creative and technical expertise lies in bringing contemporary relevance to traditional techniques – keeping both cultural narratives and crafts skills alive. Working within equal partnerships that are built on mutual trust and respect is at the heart of Bethan Gray’s creative practice. By collaborating with master craftsmen and bringing contemporary relevance to their work, she is able to connect them to new commercial markets all over the world, celebrating and preserving their skills.
Colour variations available in graduated Jade, Teal, Pink, Monochrome, and solid White and Charcoal. Finish options available in Brass, Nickel, Copper.
