About the Item

Gary Magakis blackened steel, mirror-polished bronze and textured patinated bronze epitomizes the sculptor’s distinct approach to creating bold and dense geometric forms that simultaneously exude an elegant, buoyant aesthetic of Modernism. At once a functional case piece and work of art, the console is designed to float in the room and be experienced from every angle. Inspired by Constructivism and the cantilevered rooms by Frank Lloyd Wright, Magakis channels architectural elements in design while tapering each of his forms uniquely. Though each of the console’s sections appear sharp at first glance, they are actually gracefully curvilinear, as the entire piece lacks any straight lines or edges. Magakis cantilevered cabinets allow the taut four-door console to float; this levity, which further contrasts to the steel and bronze, renders the piece at ideal aesthetic equilibrium. Magakis series of unique, sculptural consoles are featured in the Financial Times "How to Spend It", April 2015. A bespoke version with custom dimensionality and finishes may be commissioned.
