Danish Modern Wall Unit Shelves System by Johnny Sorensen and Rud Thygesen

About the Item

This listing is for all pieces photographed (six shelf units with three plinth bases). One of three different listings we have of the same series by Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sorensen dated to the late 1960s. Overview: These were not offered for sale in the United States and were purchased at the factory direct and brought back to the United States. The option to have canvas and teak was a particularly rare version and special order only - even in Denmark. Possibly the most versatile shelving system in existence, the system comes with over 24 shelves in various sizes so that one can produce a myriad of compartments in each cube. Produced with teak and canvas inside and out, the old canvas which showed its age was replaced with the best Knoll fabric. Features: Each of the three floor units rests upon a plinth base with adjustable feet that is 4" tall. Each component upon the bases are 14" deep and 20" tall and 40"wide, thus the entire overall width and height is 120" by 24". The floating cupboards are also 120" wide overall. They can be placed directly on top of the floor units or be attached to a wall and become floating units, allowing objects to be displayed in between. Two of these units have glass fronts for display. Please note that the units available for sale in our other listings are all interchangeable so one can create bookshelf of library styled displays as high or wide as one wishes. Speakers, hi-fi stereo equipment can be slotted through various configurations and wires pulled through the corners of the backs as needed. The doors can be removed as well, allowing the new owner to have greater display area as needed. The three floating cabinets have hardware on the back allowing each to be hung against the wall. The benefit of material on the shelves and cupboards is that it not only looks excellent but the light bounced back gives greater highlight to the objects displayed, so rather than the shelving unit darkening a room, it brightens it. Vintage Mid-Century Modern design seldom took practicality into account with aesthetics as well this system has. A modernist look with era period furniture and modern. Wear consistent with age with minor repairs mostly to the sides that cannot be seen. Presents exceptionally well and is very unique. If all three listings are purchased that the options available to the owner are vast in terms of how to display the units, providing the ultimate modular storage system. Via blanket wrap only.
