Early 20th French Wooden Cabinet with Stone Top

About the Item

A black stone tabletop adds an elegant crowning touch to this vintage Provincial cabinet. Built in France in the early 20th century, this piece would have originally been used as a larder; the metal mesh of the door and sides would have allowed air to circulate, keeping produce fresh. The diamond-shaped pattern and gently rippled texture of the metal — at once dainty and geometric — add a delightful decorative accent to the simple silhouette. The black painted finish has weathered over the years to reveal warm glimpses of the natural wood beneath, lending a homey touch to this unique piece.

This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped white marble top with gray veining and pronounced rounded front corners, resting atop a case with rounded and fluted side posts which flank three graduated dovetailed drawers, with round bail-pull handles flanking the escutcheon at their centers. This commode is presented upon conical legs with fluted carvings metal feet. This piece has a pale blue finish, which still allows some of the natural wood grain to show through, and is accented with a gold accent trim. Please note that the original marble top has some slight stain/yellowing at it's top (see images for further details). This French raised and marble top chest, circa 1920's, would make a great side chest for a bed or sofa, or perhaps a sweet place to store hand...
