English Antique Oak Welsh Cupboard Cabinet, Early 19th Century

About the Item

A gorgeous and early cupboard, probably crafted in England during the late 18th to early 19th century, this fine case piece remains in a very good condition with a deeply patinated golden oak surface throughout. It is a two piece cupboard, allowing it to be easily and safely transported and moved in the home. A substantial strikepoint, the contrast between the warm golden tones of oak against the oxidized and very early dark green paint of the pewter cupboard top is most attractive. The lower case hosts three drawers situated vertically over three stacked central drawers flanked by a pair of cupboard doors, each with early brass knobs that are probably original. A classic form that was incredibly popular in English country homes of the period and has remained equally popular for the last two hundred years, this practical and most beautiful cupboard is a strikepoint piece that is intended to define whatever room it becomes a part of. Measurements: 19” D x 63 1/4” W x 83 1/4” H; 35 3/4” H in lower case, 47 1/4” H in upper case Condition Report: Old crack in the lower case on the left side at the top. Very early green paint on back of pewter shelf, probably original. Patching around top left drawer keyhole escutcheon, no key for drawers. Feet are original with cracks and later nails to right side facings. Later nails on upper backboards. Surface is warm with a deep patina, extensive scaring and discoloration as expected from age and use, though overall this is highly attractive. The case remains very sturdy and strong.
