Important English 19th C. Chinoiserie Breakfront Display Cabinet
About the Item
An extraordinary Antique Chinoiserie Display Cabinet dating to the 19th Century. Made in six sections, mounted on a later base. An ebonized cabinet with overall fine chinoiserie gilt decoration. The center section with broken bonnet with fine carved and gilt urn finial and figural decoration with flowers and little dogs, and center pagodas. All three sections with floral bands embellished with masks, shells, animals, bitds, architecture, and figures. The upper doors with grille work. The lower doors with elaborate decoration in slight relief- landscapes with architecture and figures including men on horseback, a procession, and birds. The upper interiors and adjustable shelves covered with white fabric. The sides decorated with cranes and flowering plants. All mounted on a later ebonized stepped base.
H. 104", W. 110” D. 19” (Center p) 18" on the ends
Condition: There are some age-related Lacquer, Paint and Gilt losses (Visible in photos) at the edges and top surface where the upper and lower sections join which do not detract from the exceptional presentation.
