Louis XV Style French Cabinet with Giallo Siena Marble Top

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the whole description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Lovely and distinctive French Louis XV style cabinet; skilled cabinetmakers used different colors of walnut wood to make this item; feather walnut veneer with a balanced geometric pattern was inserted on the front of the two drawers; the same workmanship was repeated for the door of the large and convenient space below, for the side panels and for the uprights, an aesthetically refined and elegant execution that is complemented by four small, sturdy cabriole legs, elegant gilt bronze handles adorning the drawers, and refined decoration for the lock. To complete it perfectly, a shaped top made of Giallo Siena marble was placed on the top. Giallo Siena marble is a natural stone, typical of the Sienese mountains, certainly, one of the most famous and beautiful colored marbles in Italy, appreciated since ancient times for important coverings, and for the creation of decorative objects and jewelry. The Sienese hills are made up of sedimentary metamorphic rocks formed over millennia as a result of movements of the earth's crust; this location gives Giallo Siena its main peculiarity: each slab undoubtedly can be considered a unique piece. As we said the entire cabinet was made using feather walnut veneers finished with natural products and ancient methodologies in use in the old French craft workshops, these techniques have allowed us to enhance the chromaticism, flaming, and grain of feather walnut giving our cabinet a unique and exclusive elegance and refinement. The cabinet was made in the Louis XV style by expert wood craftsmen between 1870 and 1880 in a workshop in Chambery (France) a town in the woods of the Savoy department, right at the foot of the Alps. Furniture in the Louis XV style is simple and refined, the balance of its forms is able to give the whole piece of furniture an elegant and refined air. They are regarded as a source of inspiration for the search for harmony and proportion, or as a rich decorative repertoire to be treated with the same freedom of invention that had already been put into practice in the Rococo period. Measures width cm.65, depth cm.49, height cm.110. The object has been treated with ancient manual restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and is in excellent condition. • Louis XVI Style French Bench with "Vienna Straw" Seat
    Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Interesting and graceful oak bench; the legs, conical and elegantly fluted, are joined at the base by a well-designed and harmonious X-shaped element; the well-solid frame is carved with simple, linear, and refined motifs; the upper oval part serves as the seat is enriched with fine "Vienna straw" work. The bench was made between 1880 and 1885 in an artisan workshop near Paris certainly by a very skilled master cabinetmaker because this kind of workmanship requires a lot of experience and skill. The process of seat construction using equidistant holes and a woven plant material (drawn guinea cane) was known since Egyptian times (a stool was found in the tomb of the architect Kha dating from 1600° B.C.), but it was from the mid-19th century that it became popular worldwide. It was the Austro-Hungarian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (father of bentwood) who in 1842 created chair No. 4 with this technique for the Daum café on Vienna's Kohlmarkt, but success came in 1859 when the Gebruder Thonet company of Michael's sons presented chair No. 14 made of curved solid wood with a straw seat...
