About the Item
The Louise Cabinet is a study in simultaneity. It combines light with shadow, angles with arches, and blackened metal with glistening brass.
Inspired by Louise Bourgeois’ ‘Cell’ sculptures, which she describes as dealing “with the pleasure of the voyeur, the thrill of looking and being looked at,” the Louise Cabinet is designed to at once enclose and reveal. The viewer is prompted to look within, through the perforations of the expanded metal frame, to the pair of ebonized oak display shelves perched inside. Two hinged doors open the cabinet, featuring contrasting handles crafted from solid brass. At the base of the cabinet, a raised metal plinth doubles as a hidden compartment, and below, the two front legs subtly transition from blackened steel to raw steel to polished brass, supporting the cabinet with a playful inward turn of the legs, and a touch of glimmer that echoes the brass detailing of the handles above.
Capturing the essence of both a bird and its cage, the Louise Cabinet is an elegant enclosure that opens to evoke the lightness of flight.
