Moss Cabinet by Vikram Goyal, India

About the Item

One of the earth’s earliest plants—the humble moss—lends inspiration to this cabinet. Inlaid with green matrix jasper, the cabinet employs the studio’s distinct technique of hollowed joinery to form an elegantly simple curved outer structure.

"Surfaced Cabinet Moss" by REM Atlier, 2021. The clad cabinet combines different material characteristics into a functional sculpture. Thirty enamelled ceramic tiles shape the front surface of the cabinet, fusing into an organic relief that looks like a living structure embedded. Each tile has its own unique imprint and comes out of a different mold, creating a variety in shape and depth like a rhythm of fossils. The walnut foot is constructed from small vertical lines that follow the natural lines of the wood. The lines of the wood and the curves of the ceramic provide a graphic sense to the piece. Inspired by shapes that can be found in nature when different materials surprisingly grow together and take shape as a sculpture itself. Rem Atelier...
