Stunning highly stylized American art deco tall breakfront cabinet designed by Lorin Jackson for Grosfeld House circa 1939. Andy Warhol had the same one in black. See original Grosfeld House catalog No. 3557 "Glassic" Cabinet. Glassic, then a new transparent crystal clear methyl methacrylate plastic developed by Rohm & Haas and first presented for sale by Grosfeld House. The top section of two doors with Lucite rods, opening to a lighted interior with three adjustable shelves. The bottom section fitted with two mirror clad doors on which is applied a Trojan helmet design in hand carved Glassic and which open to reveal one shelf. Top of upper cabinet cleverly crafted as a hybrid draped sash and Ionic capitals. Reference: original Grosfeld House ad from the November 1940 issue of California Arts and Architecture magazine, page 8, and original Grosfeld House catalog. The cabinet is wired up for lights but I'm sure how they work and they are untested. It comes in two easy to transport pieces, the base simply sits on the top We have cleaned waxed and polished it, it is in perfect period condition throughout, there may be normal age and use related patina marks here and there, especially behind the pillars which have lovely foxing throughout, otherwise, there is one chip on the side and that's it, nothing serious to note Dimensions Height:- 219cm, top alone 138.5cm, base 80.5cm Width:- 124.5cm top, 137.5cm base Depth:- 34cm top, 43.5cm base Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
