"TIMESAFE" secret cabinet
Design: JAN PAUL
TIMESAFE is more than a cabinet: a safe storage for personal and valuable items, expensive wines ,etc.
I designed a new, playful interpretation of a time-lock / combination-lock to secure the cabinet.
There is no actual lock on this cabinet: just 153 doorknobs.
All knobs work, and can be turned in both directions.
Only one of the knobs opens the door when turned in the right direction.
The owner of the cabinet can open it at first try, knowing which knobs to turn and pull.
Others must try all knobs and directions to find the right one.
The door has a matted black finish that provides a backdrop for the shiny rose gold-finished polished door knobs.
These multiple doorknobs mirror each-other, the surrounding space and light, creating intriguing mirror and light-effects. This causes the cabinet to have different appearances, depending on the surrounding light and point of view.
The cabinet has a minimal shape, inspired by a classic safe, with subtle rounded edges, finished in matted black to shift the attention to the flamboyant door.
The mechanism inside can be adjusted in order to make another knob work: there are 10 different knobs that can be chosen from.
