Walnut Display Cabinet with the Monogram of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden

About the Item

A very high quality mid-19th century carved and inlaid walnut display cabinet, with the monogram of Großherzog (Grand Duke) Friedrich I of Baden. The interior of the cabinet has 3 shelves, with the back is decorated with highly detailed inlay, each section has a different central motif, from top to bottom: A crown, songbird, butterfly and a bird in flight. The glazed door has a carved and inlaid oval center piece. The cabinet is surmounted by a carved eagle with outstretched wings, the eagle is holding a medallion in its beak with the monogram of Friedrich the First of Baden. The medallion is flanked by two opposing crowned Griffins, the symbol of Baden. Each corner has an acorn finial. Above the door is a shallow drawer, and below the door are 3 drawers. Frederick I (German: Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig; 9 September 1826 – 28 September 1907) was the sovereign Grand Duke of Baden, reigning from 1856-1907.
