18th Century Sicilian Polychrome Painted Parcel Gilt Commode

About the Item

A very rare 18th century Sicilian Rococo Polychrome Painted and Parcel Gilt Serpentine Commode. Italy Sicily circa 1750-70 Of wonderful colour having a serpentine moulded simulated marble top above two long drawers decorated with flower and bird-filled cartouches in scroll and foliate-moulded pastiglia frames on a red ground over a conforming serpentine apron. The sides similarly painted with large flower filled cartouches with the whole raise on cabriole legs and hoofed feet. A wonderfully decorative commode typical of Sicilian Rococo design of the second half of the 18th century. Due to the limited output of these pieces they are rare to the market and often found in private collections. Dimensions Width 53 inches - 135cm Height 36 inches - 91.5cm Depth 23 inches - 58.5cm.

  • Rare Pair of 17th Century Spanish Baroque Gilt Bronze Mounted Ebonised and Torto

    An Exceptional and rare pair of 17th Century Spanish Baroque gilt bronze and metal mounted ebonised and tortoiseshell cabinets of grand scale with Provenance. Spain circa 1680. The moulded top above a central door of architectural form with a niche and the standing classical figure of Athena flanked by dual pairs of Tuscan pillars, to the door reverse being segmented walnut and inlaid with ebonised geometric banding, opening to reveal five tortoiseshell and ebonised fronted drawers with gilt stars and ring handles, the bottom drawer concealing a further secret drawer to the rear. The portico being flanked by eight conforming drawers retaining steel locks and gilt escutcheons. The sides with segmented walnut and inlaid geometric banding and ebonised mouldings together with iron drop carrying handles, on gilt metal clad claw ebonised ball feet.
