19th Century American Empire Flamed Mahogany Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Featured is a very handsome American Empire chest of drawers built from gorgeous flamed crotched mahogany. This is four drawers built with hand cut dovetails. Each drawer is fitted with black glass pulls that were added at a later date. This chest rests on top of four solid cherry wood block feet that have been ebonized. The right and left sides are both panel constructed which indicates that this piece was most likely made between 1830-1840. The drawers are flanked by turned columns that lead up to a gothic arched mahogany inlay pattern. You can feel a German influence in the design of the piece. The case is extremely solid however there is a climatic split in the top poplar wood panel with some veneer loses around the perimeter of the top. The mahogany surfaces are all highly polished lacquer. This is a great exampled of early 19th Century American Empire.
