Small antique Biedermeier commode with trick lock

Description:
Strictly cubist, three-bay piece of furniture standing on pointed feet.
We see a very calm, simply mirrored grain pattern of the light wood on the front. The base, the edge of the top and the crosspiece below the top drawer are ebonised and contrast with the wood. The top drawer has a wide frame of brass and dark wood. This design is continued on the sides of the piece of furniture.
On the front, the two handleless and lockless drawers stand out. All drawers are opened via the lock of the top drawer, which operates an interesting concealed locking mechanism.
To do this, the key is first inserted into the lock the wrong way round, i.e. with the bit facing upwards. If we now turn the key, a latch presses on a push-button located in the second drawer. This in turn releases the lock on the bottom drawer, which now opens automatically, held under tension by two springs.
The same happens with the second drawer when the key is inserted into the lock with the bit facing downwards and turned.
A very unusual technique, absolutely ingenious.

In the top drawer there is a diamond-shaped sticker with inventory number.
There are various shipping and numbering labels on the back panel.
Condition:
Restored and polished with shellac. The mechanism works perfectly.
