19th Century Louis XVI Style Commode After Jean Henri Reisener

About the Item

Presenting an absolutely stunning 19th century Louis XVI style, Harewood and Kingwood commode after the model made by Jean Henri Reisener. We are of the opinion that our Commode is a mid to late 19th century copy of the original Reisener commode that sits in the Musée national du château de Fontainebleau. We are of the opinion that whilst it does not have a makers mark, that it was made by a top French maker. This Commode has impeccable Provenance: It was purchased at a French antique auction held at the Club Room in the Stoneligh Court (Hotel), Dallas on Wednesday the 2nd April 1930. (Now The Meridian Hotel). We have the Original Auction Catalog which has remained with the Commode since it was acquired at that Auction. The Auction was titled: " Works of Art and Furnishings of The Chateau de Turique (Nancy) and The Conde-Rougemont Home (Touraine). The cover of the Catalog also has a seal of a Coat of Arms. The first page of the Catalog States: "Exhibition on Wednesday, April 2nd And Following Days From 10 A.M. to 10 P.M......EXHIBITION at CLUB ROOM, STONELIGH COURT, DALLAS, TEXAS". The Second page gives a brief description of the Auction contents and states that " This Exhibition will be presented by M. Fernand M. Adda of Paris France" The Commode was Lot No: 394 and was described in the Auction Catalog as: "BEAUTIFUL INLAID HARE AND KINGWOOD COMMODE, XVIII CENTURY. Arched Body. Fitted with a Door. Center shaped panel, inlaid with pastoral trophy and closely placed medallions. Richly mounted in chiseled bronze moldings. Large appliqués of acanthus leaves and scrolling. On cabriole feet. Solid Siense marble top. NOTE: Exceptionally beautiful proportions and workmanship." It is noted on the margin by the buyer that she paid the princely sum of $1,500 in 1930 for this piece. Allowing for simple inflation, this would equate to well over $22,000 today. Three frieze drawers fitted with two adjustable shelves and enclosed by a panel door inlaid with a panel depicting a ewer bowl and rustic trophy.

  • 19C French Empire Style Complete Bedroom Set - Outstanding
    By François Linke
    Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING 19C French Empire Style Style Complete Bedroom Suite/Set. HIGHLY, IMPORTANT AND UNIQUE Empire Style Bedroom Suite or Set, in the Manner of Francois Linke (or similarly important Parisienne maker), from circa 1880. The Suite/Set is almost completely original, save the bed, which was originally twin size, but professionally commissioned to be customized and converted into a Euro King Size for modern practicality. The quality of the conversion matches the quality of the suite/set. All pieces have ormolu gilt mounted fittings; beautiful patina, beautiful parquetry; beautiful carrara marble tops, simply stunning! About 10 years ago, I saw the ‘identical twin’ of the Commode in an Antique Store on Central Park in New York, however it had a less desirable green marble top (IMHO), and they were looking for 30k USD for the Commode, on its OWN! This Suite/Set is SO GOOD that it is the main exhibit in our rear Showroom. Not marked but under the marble top of the commode there are 2 signatures in pencil (1) M. Le Youters (?) and (2) M. Daneels. You will NOT find another complete suite/set like this ANYWHERE! AS A BONUS: We have curated and sourced (recently) a Pair of Monumental French Empire Wall Sconces which are a ‘PERFECT’ match for this bedroom set! (See pics) These sconces are being sold separately BUT they really COMPLETE the entire bedroom! The Suite/Set includes: European King Size Bed (Headboard, Baseboard, side panels and central support bracket). 2 Matching Bedside...

  • 19th Century Samson Paris Porcelain Trinket Box
    By Samson & Cie
    Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a gorgeous French 19th century Samson Paris Porcelain Trinket Box probably by Edme Samson. Marked on the base with “Made in France” and unmistakably in the style and manner of Samson. The lid features hand painted floral bouquets on an ivory porcelain background with gold edging, surrounded by a sky blue lid with gold web or crackling effect.. The lid is hinged and the lid and base are edged in floral gilt metal mounts with Fleur De Lis clasp. It sits on 4 gilt metal or ormolu feet. The sides are likewise hand decorated. This wonderful antique hand painted box is just bursting with History. Inspired by Edme Samson of Samson & Co., Paris. we believe (based upon the markings and natural aging) that it was made between 1880– 1890 in France and was meant to resemble an antique of a much earlier period. It is very similar to Sevres pieces with it’s color, decoration and design. Samson specialized in reproducing antiques from the 1600 and 1700s. One of his most interesting works was his Heraldic or Armorial pieces. With this medium sized box, he was not only copying the larger porcelain caskets or coffin boxes...
