19th Century Portuguese Chest of Drawers

About the Item

The appealing shape and unique patina of this antique wooden chest of drawers make it a covetable find. Built in Portugal in the 1800s, the gentle tilt of the upper surface suggests that this piece was once used as a writing desk; the lid of the tabletop opens to reveal an additional storage compartment. The original finish of the wood has weathered over the centuries to create an attractive patina — the sober black top-coat contrasts with the burnt umber under-coat and bright amber of the natural wood. Out-turned feet lend the cabinet a charming stance, while decorative metal accents add an ornate finishing touch.
