!8th Century Italian Louis XVI Walnut Commode

About the Item

Louis XVI commode hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut. This is a wonderful large and low commode that can be perfect for both a bedroom and also an entry way. The commode shows a two-board top with rounded front corners and ogee edges. The top is marked by some stains and discoloration, as shown in the pictures, caused by age and use. On the front, the commode features three large inset drawers, framed by hand-carved thin molding. All drawers have beautiful, hand-made dovetails. The front corners of the case are rounded and decorated by fluting. The commode still sits on its original, hand-turned front feet and back block feet. This is a beautiful commode that despite its rather large size will not take over a room, however, it will most definitely draw attention. Therefore, it can be used as both a practical as well as statement piece in any room that needs one. Its lower height make it perfect for a spot that has a large piece of art of wall mirror.
