This is an antique tallboy. An English, mahogany and oak chest of drawers, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1790. Wonderfully figured and presenting fine colour Displaying a desirable aged patina throughout Select stocks show fine grain interest and rich russet hues Substantial drawer fronts at a thickness of 2.5cm (1'') with oak drawer boxes Graced with appealing canted corners in the Georgian tradition Arranged as two upper drawers over three graduated, full width drawers Each dressed with brass drop handles over circular backs and an inset lock escutcheon — key absent Pleasingly clean drawer boxes benefit from the bountiful grain interest of English oak Standing upon delightful ogee bracket feet to each corner This is a superb antique chest of drawers, graced with striking grain interest and quality polished finished in caramel hues. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.     What a handsome chest of drawers! It’s a long time since we last offered a Scottish chest of drawers and this one is a beauty. The piece is built in two sections, necessary for negotiating narrow passages and staircases. The upper section has three deep drawers with the flow of their serpentine fronts unbroken by knobs or pulls. Instead the drawer fronts have finger pulls carved into their undersides. These are flanked by serpentine corbels with a deep flute in the center. The 6.5"high splashback is removable, making the height 48.5".
