Venetian dresser shaped on the front and sides, 18th century

About the Item

Venetian chest of drawers with a contoured shape both on the front and on the sides, veneered in walnut and walnut root on both the front and on the sides and threaded in maple wood. Period: third quarter of the 18th century Origin: Venice Material: walnut burl, walnut veneer, maple inlay Style: Louis XV - transition Details: Floor Sinuously wavy briar top with shaped edge. Legs Supported by four thin cabriole supports, a typical movement of the Louis XV style. The front The front, with lively shapes, is divided into three orders of drawers, which display a mirror in walnut root with maple fillet and walnut edge. The hips The sides, also strongly shaped, take up the motif of the veneer and briar of the front. Authenticity The piece of furniture has only been cleaned, each part is intact and contemporary, has no replacements and does not require any restoration, ready to be placed on the wall. To verify its integrity it is necessary to view not only the outside but also the inside: Interior, bottom and backrest in fir wood, a "soft" and not very heavy wood used by Venetian cabinetmakers to be able to transport furniture more easily inside boats. Looking at the drawers inside it is possible to notice the presence of eighteenth-century nails, not perfectly round, as they were "handmade". An oxide has developed around them given only by the passage of time. The originality is also evident from the edge of the drawers themselves which show the wear caused by their sliding. Contemporary locks and handles with period mechanism only overhauled. Furthermore, it has already been exhibited at Modenantiquaria 2020 and subsequently examined by the examining commission. Comparative bibliography: Similar examples can be found in Clara Santini's catalog “Mille Mobili Veneziani”, figures 102 to 109.
