Danish Chest of Drawers by Arne Wahl Inversen
About the Item
Born on 9 November 1927 in Nyborg, Holland, Arne is a Danish furniture designer and architect. He became interested in furniture from his father, who had a shop in his hometown, and decided to train as a carpenter, later taking classes as a furniture designer at the Technical School in Odense.
At the age of 25 he opened a drawing studio in his hometown. His ambition was to make elegant and functional furniture with a high craftsmanship value. In 1957 he began a collaboration with Ingvar Kamprad, who was in the process of establishing IKEA in the Swedish market. At that time, well-known names had made Danish product design famous worldwide, so the young Arne decided to go his own way and set himself apart from the authors of the day.
