Exceptional George II Yew Wood and Walnut Bureau c. 1750
About the Item
With a fantastic colour, and in rarely seen Yew wood, this beautiful bureau dates from the reign of George II c. 1750.
With oak lined drawers and a handsome interior of small walnut drawers and pigeon holes and a door with figured walnut inlaid with yew wood banding and all with original brass button handles.
The bureau is most unusual in that the lopers are also secret drawers and can hold pens and treasures – I’ve not seen this before on any period bureau in my 45 years in the trade and the lopers are oak lined with small slide covers over.
The yew is cut in thick veneers and covers all visible faces of the bureau, it is beautifully aged and has superb patina.
The bureau has small losses, marks and dings consistent with caring use. The fall is sturdy and level and the drawers open and close smoothly.
A very rare and high quality bureau and an extremely eye catching piece of early Georgian furniture.
