We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare original Camphor wood military campaign chest with sliding Secrataire desk and writing slope each lock numbered and stamped Stamford Co Feb 1 76 A very rare and desirable piece of military used Campaign furniture. There are hundreds of thousands of modern reproductions of these types of furniture and thousands of originals which have little to no proof they are the real deal, this piece is the correct timber for the era which is Camphor wood, each lock is numbered from 1 to 5 and stamped STANDARD PAT’D FED 1 76 STAMFORD CT, that’s for the 1st of February 1876, the back has half of a Victorian Depositary label still attached Most of these Campaign chests are simply drawers which were for officers of medium standing, the higher ranking officials had secratcaire sections as this does, there is a small sliding drawer section inside this single drawer, a writing slope which is height adjustable, this truly is a very Fine piece of furniture and would have been commissioned for a very important military leader We have cleaned waxed and polished the piece, it has normal patina marks from honest age and fair use, there was a small piece of wood missing on the bottom outside edge near one of the feet, I have found the piece of timber and will have it restored back in place Dimensions: Height 114.5cm Width 111cm Depth 46.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
