Hand-Carved Writing Desk Commode, 20th Century

About the Item

A Portuguese cabinet crafted at the beginning of the century, constructed from solid and intricately carved wood. The box features scalloped and domed lines on its front and sides, with unique asymmetrical curves. It consists of two upper drawers, a drawing board, three drawers, and frames made of satin wood. The body of the cabinet is adorned with vertical pilasters that are exquisitely carved, featuring floral motifs, vegetal windings, and convex flutes. It rests on winding feet. The folding lid has rounded upper corners and displays the crooked thread and retort factory, along with a removable central tabernacle. It is flanked by two document holders, seven lower drawers, and nine bins. The cabinet is adorned with yellow metal fittings and interior handles. The interiors are made of pau-caixa wood and other woods, featuring bins and a central hatch with a key. The cabinet has a good patina and showcases beautiful wooden bent. This piece is truly exceptional.
