About the Item
An Irish military Campaign chest from the 19th century. This antique case-piece from Ireland, circa 1880, has a chest-on-chest design; a style of chests which were originally designed to make these pieces easily taken apart for quick moving during travels. The chest together is tall and rectangular, with upper case housing a pair of halved-drawers over a full-sized drawer, while lower case houses two full sized drawers (for a total of 5 drawers). There is a removable top rail lip that outlines the edges (see additional images for further detail on how this works). The chest is fitted with brass corner mounts, and each drawer with brass back-plates & handle pulls, and a key escutcheon. The mahogany wood has a nicely-aged patina; note that there are some scratches and wear (which we think adds intrigue when thinking about this pieces travels in history!). This 19th century Irish military Campaign chest is a really near piece which would be well suited for use in both a modern or more older/traditional interior styles.
