Late 19th Century Indonesian Batak Toba Chest

About the Item

Late 19th century Indonesian Batak Toba domestic chest/child's bed. With a sliding top and stylised head corner with Singa creature pillars, found in Noble houses. Dating to the latter part of the 19th century to the early 20th century. A similar chest is on exhibition in The Micheal C Rockefeller Wing of the Metropolitan Museum, New York. Provence; UK collector purchased this item in Jakarta, Indonesia in the early 1990s, when residing in Indonesia.
