About the Item
Elegant straight-lined neoclassical Austrian 'Josephine' or Louis XVI. period Commode or Chest of Three Drawers from Vienna, Austria from the late 18th Century about 1790.
Walnut and cherry veneer on softwood with inlays in plum, maple, ebony and green-stained wood. Gold-leaf plated carved decorative strip above and below as well as golden ornaments in the middle. Original gold-plated bronze fittings.
Large box lock on the central drawer that locks the other drawers up and down.
Elaborately hand-crafted one-of-a kind antique commode of excellent quality and condition. Greatly restored condition, Shellac hand polished and renewed gold-plating .
